Here’s what you can expect on your visit:
Check In:
Clinic is open on Tuesday evenings by appointment, please call 715-308-3808 to schedule.
Basic Services Provided: Health exams, lab, medications (excluding controlled substances and reproductive health services). Dental services referred to Family Health Center-Menomonie Dental Center.
Registration & Eligibility:
You will be asked to provide some basic contact and eligibility information. The clinic serves those that are under insured and are at or below 250% federal poverty guideline.
Intake:
You will go to Intake your first time at clinic. You’ll also go there once every 3 months to see if you qualify for clinic services. This station will also help you find other resources. These include dental care, job info, legal services and many others.
Primary care service:
After intake a nurse will call your name for you to see a provider. The nurse will take your BP, temperature, pulse and ask about your health and medications. You will then see a Doctor, Nurse Practitioner or Physicians Assistant
How long does it take?
Each clinic night varies depending on the number of patients and the complexity of their medical needs.
What information do I need to bring with me?
- List of current medications
- Health history information
- Recent test results
- Proof of income- required for some services
Are there interpreter services?
An interpreter can be arranged for Hmong and Spanish speaking patients. Please contact the clinic in advance when possible if an interpreter is needed. You can reach the clinic at 715-308-3808.
What if I need lab work or X-ray?
Free Clinic offers lab work and radiology scheduled after appointments through Mayo Clinic Health System. Lab/ Radiology results will be given to the Free Clinic Nursing Supervisor for review with the Medical Director. You will be notified of the results and any follow up instructions.
What services are NOT AVAILABLE?
Immunizations, prescriptions for narcotics, controlled substances, STD testing, and birth control are not available. Please see resource list page for other organizations that provided these services in the local area.
Medication questions:
Can I bring in a prescription that I received from another doctor and have it filled at the Free Clinic?
No, medications dispensed through the Free Clinic must be prescribed by a Free Clinic Provider. However when seeing a Free Clinic Provider your prescriptions will be reviewed and the Provider will determine whether they are available through the Free Clinic.
Can I get a prescription written for a medication that is not available through the Free Clinic?
Free Clinic providers do not have authorization to write prescriptions outside of the Free Clinic.
Can I get pain medications through the Free Clinic?
We do not prescribe medications that are classified as controlled substances. This includes medication for A.D.D. and other complex mental health conditions. Ibuprofen is the strongest pain medication available through Free Clinic.
PAP
Some medications come through the Patient Assistance Program (PAP) and you may be asked to meet with them so that they can assist you to complete the required paper work. These medications can take 4-6 weeks to be received. Once they are in we will call you .These medications can be picked up on clinic night from 6-8.
